Overview
The Administrative Systems organization is responsible for the development, support, and operations of the
University’s administrative applications, databases and systems.
These include the SCT Banner Financial System,
Human Resources/Payroll,
Student Information System, and
Financial Aid,
Self Service software packages,
the Cbord Campus Card system, and various other software packages
and custom applications for meeting Rice’s administrative requirements.
These large systems support a variety of campus wide business operations and administrative functions that include departmental and grant
budget management, human resources management, payroll, investment and endowment management, financial reporting, purchasing and payables,
student information, financial aid operations, financial and operational audits, and campus card/access control activities and requirements.
The SCT/Banner student systems contain information regarding graduate and undergraduate students, course catalogs and schedules, student
academic records, student accounts receivable, and financial aid information.
Also supported are the EDGAR and Esther systems. EDGAR is an acronym for Electronic Data Gathering and Reporting and is a datamart for
management level reporting, business analysis and decision making. It contains and accesses a numerous set of financial, research
proposal/award, HR/payroll, facilities, and enrollment information databases for campus users and is extensible to other data sources.
Assistance with data analysis projects is provided.
Esther is the employee and student tools, help and electronic resources system. It is a self service system that students can use to access
their academic records, course schedules, and more. Employees can use the system to access their personal and benefit information.
